As friends & family know, as of June 1st, I’m officially On The Road. I moved out of my beautiful three bedroom apartment in the Marina Peninsula just south of Venice Beach on the last day of May, and I’m… homeless. It’s not a bad thing though.
There’s a two-door Ford Focus parked outside right now, filled with my needed belongings. I’ve got four months paid on a 5×10 storage unit in West Los Angeles containing the hundreds of books, few pieces of furniture, and various non-essential knick-knacks I’ve acquired over the years. Myself and my two parrots are traveling via car across the United States and back this summer.
I moved from Boston to Los Angeles literally a year ago this week. But I flew. I wanted to drive, but it wasn’t in the cards. Now it is.
So, with two small parrots in the passenger seat and as much optimism as I can muster for a safe trip devoid of breakdowns or emergencies, I’m going to do this.
I’m going to be blogging about this, obviously. About where I am, what I’ve seen, how I feel.
Right now I’m in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. I’m in the guest bedroom of a dear friend’s home. I spent all day running last minute errands to prepare for my trip, and got stuck in obscene amounts of traffic off the 405 freeway on the way back, so I ended up taking the scenic route via Pacific Coast Highway and the mountains. I remembered that my phone has a video camera. Awesome.
A snippet of my drive through Santa Monica on my way to PCH. Hopefully there will be better videos like this to come.
